DESCRIPTION:DAAYO is excited to host a mini-recital followed by a short Q&A for Cliburn Junior Laureate Jiwon Yang on May 3rd\, from 6:30-7:30PM at our rehearsal location at 420 Maplelawn Dr. Plano TX 75075. This event is free with registration below! This event is a great chance for young musicians (particularly pianists) to learn from a young professional currently in conservatory about her life\, auditions\, how she prepares\, etc.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKorean pianist Jiwon Yang made her recital debut in Seoul at age 9 and her concerto debut in Kazakhstan at 13. Since then\, she has won numerous prizes in North America\, Europe\, and her native country—including third prize at the 2019 Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition and Festival. Concerto performances include collaborations with the Camerata New York\, Dallas Symphony\, State Academic Symphony\, and Salzburg Chamber Soloist Orchestras\, under the direction of such conductors as Ruth Reinhardt\, Richard Owen\, and Gerhardt Zimmerman. In fall 2020\, Jiwon enrolled in the bachelor’s program at the Mannes School of Music on a full scholarship\, under the guidance of Richard Goode and Pavlina Dokovksa. As a student\, she has been presented in numerous Mannes Sounds Festival events\, as well as the school’s closing concert in Weill Hall\, Carnegie Hall. DESCRIPTION:This is a special concert featuring renowned soprano Dr. Yixuan Han. （韓藝璇博士）(Tickets $30-$120\, Students Free with RSVP)\nDr. Han’s captivating\, powerful voice has been heard across multiple continents\, and she is the winner of multiple vocal and opera awards\, including the Bellini Award and Chinese National Vocal Competition. In 2019 she won the University of North Texas (UNT)’s concerto competition as a vocalist (instrumentalists and vocalists were in the field). She is a multi-time invitee artist on China’s National television (CCTV). Dr. Han completed her Doctorate in Musical Arts in Applied Voice and Vocal Pedagogy with Dr. Stephen F. Austin at the University of North Texas. \nIn addition to her luminous career as a performer\, Dr. Han is a pioneering educator in developing a new version of IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) for Chinese songs. Her work has contributed greatly to bringing these cultural works to a wide range of international vocalists. DESCRIPTION:Season Finale Concert\nOur 2018-2019 season finale concert will feature not one\, but two\, student soloists – Michelle Zhu (oboe) and Catherine Yang (cello). Both are winners of DAAYO’s 2019 concerto competition. \nMichelle was the 1st place winner of the 2019 Collin County Young Artist Competition (Senior Wind Division) and the Grand Prize winner of the 2019 Bocal Majority Solo Competition. Catherine\, a multi-year All-Region cellist\, is a member of the chamber orchestra at Plano West Senior High. \nIn addition\, we will also feature special guest Weiping Lu on the erhu (a two-stringed\, bowed classical chinese instrument). Weiping began his studies on the erhu at the age of 12\, and studied under professors from the China Conservatory of Music and Sichuan Conservatory of Music. He is a member of the Dallas HuaYun Chinese Orchestra and Great Land Choir Society. \nThis is a concert not to be missed! \nRepetoire Highlights:\nAlbinoni‘s Oboe Concerto in D Minor Op.9\, No. 2\, mvt. DESCRIPTION:Our 2019 Concerto Competition will be held on February 9th\, 2019 at our rehearsal facility. \nThe winner of this competition will perform their solo with our Symphony Orchestra on May 19th\, 2019 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church. \nThe competition will start at 6PM. SUMMARY:Müller Chamber Choir Special Performance (9/6/2018)
DESCRIPTION:The North Texas Chien Kuo Alumni Association and DAAYO are proud to present the Müller Chamber Choir in their first ever performance in North Texas on September 6\, 2018 (7PM) at St. Andrew United Methodist Church.\n\nFounded in 1999 and led by Artistic Director and Conductor Ms. Meng-Hsien Peng\, the Taiwan-based Müller Chamber Choir is one of the premier all male non-professional choirs in the world. INTERKULTUR\, the world’s leading organizer of international choir competitions and festivals\, ranks the Müller Chamber Choir as the no. 1 non-professional Chamber Choirs and Vocal Ensemble in the world as of June 2018. (The second time in two years that the group has held this ranking.)\n\nMuller has a history of outstanding performances at the international level. In 2015 at the 9th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition in Germany\, Müller Chamber Choir won the Folk\, Sacred and Male Choir categories and took home the Grand Prix. In 2016\, the choir participated in the World Choir Games in Sochi\, Russia and received gold medals in the Male Chamber Choirs\, Musica Sacra a cappella and Musica Contemporanea categories. In addition\, the group was the champion of the Male Chamber Choirs category with the highest winning score of all-time.\n\nMüller Chamber Choir takes upon itself the mission to create a distinctive Taiwanese male voice repertoire. Since 2011\, it has commissioned composers and writers to collaborate on projects with the potential to bring out the multi-faceted depth and richness of the male choral soundscape. The completed productions include Requiem pro Amor (2011)\, Literature via Music (2012)\, Compose and Sing: Music of Our Land (2013)\, Songs of the Isles (2014)\, Wish I (2016)\, and Wish II (2017).
