DAAYO 2018 Austria Concert Tour (June 16th-23rd, 2018)
DAAYO’s educational and performance tour in the summer of 2018 featured performances at two of the premier venues in all of Austria: St. Peter’s Church in Vienna and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Our performance at St. Peter’s Church, one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in the world, gave students an opportunity to perform sacred repertoire in front of hundreds of sight-seers. In Salzburg, students were able to play at a venue (the Mozarteum), considered one of the gems of Salzburg’s concert halls.
In addition to the concerts, we enjoyed the sights and sounds of Vienna, a city that Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Strauss and Haydn all called home at one point. Our group had a chance to revel at the Baroque majesty of the Hapsburgs at the Belvedere Palace, sight-see along the famous Ring Street, and eat delicious Sache Torte. In our free time, many students explored the Schoenbrunn Palace, others wandered along the scenic Danube river, some attended the Vienna State Opera and a few even explored the history of Austria’s military at the military museum. Our group also had a chance to spend some time in Melk, getting an opportunity to tour the famous Benedictine Abbey. In Salzburg we explored the old town, visited Mozart’s Residence, saw the mirabell gardens and many took a trip up to Hohensalzburg fortress. We caught some much needed R&R at the splendid Lake Wolfgang before heading back to Dallas.
