Symphony Orchestra
The Symphony Orchestra (SO) is DAAYO’s most advanced youth orchestra. It is comprised of many talented young musicians throughout the North Texas area, including All-State instrumentalists and other high level players. This orchestra is a full orchestra that includes strings, woodwinds, brasswinds and occasionally harp. Students in this orchestra are typically very proficient and usually have 5 or more years of experience with their instrument.
Directed by Matthew Moreno, performances by the Symphony Orchestra represent the culmination and spirit of excellence and achievement in youth musical education. Members of this group receive multiple sectional sessions for each concert period with professional performers to enhance their technique and musicianship.
The Symphony Orchestra often features student soloists and world-renowned soloists throughout its concert season. Programs include a variety of music elements, including classical masterworks, pop theme symphonic works, Asian symphonic works and solo concerto repertoire.
Repertoire examples include Pictures at an Exhibition (Mussorgsky arr. Ravel) and Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber (Hindemith).
