Audition Information

2021 Open Auditions (strings/woodwinds/brass) for 2021-2022 Season

Our 2021 open auditions are now open for registration! These auditions are for entrance into the orchestra in the fall of 2021 (The season is from late August to May, similar to a school year.)

We are cautiously optimistic about Fall 2021. While we cannot guarantee anything specific at this juncture, we can tell you two things: the safety of our students, staff and all of their families will continue to be our number one priority, and we will err on the side of caution in opaque situations (e.g. maintaining virtual rehearsals if necessary).

All auditions will be completed via video file submission format (minus sight-reading). This year, we’ll be having a rolling audition process split into three rounds.

Audition Rounds and Deadlines

We audition all strings and winds (woodwind and brass) typically found in a full orchestra. If you play saxophone, piano or percussion/timpani, please register separately here to be notified of potential openings. All other instruments should use the button below. (Chamber Group auditions are also separate and held in the Fall, see below for info.)

We have rolling auditions with three rounds of deadlines:

  • April 30 submission deadline, results in mid-May. (Early Bird!)
  • May 22 submission deadline, results in early June.
  • June 19 submission deadline, results in late June.

It is to advantageous  to submit your audition videos earlier as spots may fill up and we may be able to give you a spot early in the process.

Important points:

  1. Make sure you download and read the instructions for video submission here.
  2. Remember to read our FAQ, as well as this entire page, before registering.
  3. Learn more about our various orchestras/levels through our videos on this website
  4. Specific audition requirements for each orchestra are located on this page (scroll down).

Most applicants will follow a similar audition process of scales, etude, excerpt and sight-reading. Winds are an exception, see bottom of this page.  If you do not make your desired group, we will consider you for another orchestra; however, we may require an additional audition. Space is limited and we highly recommend that you look at the required excerpts closely to determine your best potential fit.
